Going to our amazing Columbus Metropolitan Library is always a treat for me. After all, they're NUMBER ONE in the nation for a reason, right? I'm one of those blessed people that live two minutes away from one of the library branches so I'm practically there all the time, know people by their first name, and even meet new people constantly. So, yes it feel like home. I know some bloggers have a nice section on their blog called In my Mailbox which I enjoy reading. So, I decided to come up with a simple title for a similar concept. So here it is...
On my last trip to the library these are some of the books I discovered...
Balancing Act by Ellen Stoll Walsh is the story of two creative little mice who are looking for some fun. They found a rock, they found a stick, and ta-da! you got a teeter-totter. But what would happen when more friends want to join the fun? can they manage to fit them all? can they still balance and have some fun? A great read aloud for the younger ones who will enjoy all the "Whoops!" Whoa! Hmmm....Oh no! expressions that the author included for extra fun. You would love the book as you appreciate also the art familiar to many of us who also enjoyed the classic Mouse Paint and Mouse Count.
A Dazzling Display of Dogs Concrete Poems by Betsy Franco is another fun little treasure for any classroom. Let me just say that the combination of Betsy Franco whose poetry I enjoyed, the topic of dogs which is a popular one with children plus the idea of concrete poems which students are always so interested in discover make this book a winning one! The illustrations done by Michael Wertz is a fantastic one! Love the action, the busy art, the combination of words intertwined with the pictures. What a perfect companion to her book A Curious Collection of Cats.
Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes is such a great picture book to start a conversation on "wonders" and "discoveries." On a wonderful Spring Day, Little White Rabbit sets out to discover the field, hop around and wish for adventures and a day filled with fun. With few sentences on each page, the author allows the reader to get into little rabbit's wondering mode inviting and encouraging the reader to do the same. A fun and simple book with plenty of possibilities!
